Initially, I was to fly combat fighter jets for the RAF, but other issues took me to Australia. Here after many great engineering jobs, I took The Queen’s Commission in the Royal Australian Combat Engineers. Above is my "officer" graduation parade photograph. Now I am ready for the sharp end! Here I am with some rough looking Aussie characters in NT, on alert to fight of the Musurians, just to our North. It was not all hard work and dangerous. This Hawaii CO, loaned me his helicopter gunship to fly around HI for a day. My troops were training with his battalion on the main Island of Hawaii and I got some time off to sight-see. Much of the work was in Asia-Pacific. Usually too hot, too many mosquitoes, & lots of deadly snakes. They gave me the sub-machine gun to fight off the snakes! The Musurian baddies, of course, were a bit of a nuisance too! This is what we did best: sharp end training, in the Pacific. (The above, taken during action, by AU camera crew ~1980).
