The Goat Willow

Goat Willow - Salix caprea, and of the family Salicaceae. 
It is also known as Great Sallow,  Pussy Willow.
It is related in species to White Willow - Salix alba, the Crack Willow - Salix fragilis, and Bay Willow - Salix pentandra.

It is a fast growing small deciduous tree, or bush, with striking catkins in March, with a height of up to 15 m.

Whilst thriving on wet locations, its habitat is mainly woods and hedgerows, but not restricted to wet places. It can be found at
up to 600m in altitude.

It has a natural native distribution throughout Britain and Ireland, but not the outer Hebrides. It is found throughout Europe and North east Africa.

It is readily propagation and grown from seed, but Only fresh seeds will germinate in moist soil.. It has fine seeds with hairs
that aid its dispersion.

It has brittle branches and produces little useable timber.
