Scots Pine - Pinus sylvestris. It is also known as Scots Fir and Irish Giuis, and is of the family - Pinaceae.
It is a British native tree with a natural native distribution that
does not include Euxton and Lancashire.

The Scots Pine is a large evergreen and is the only native British Pine.  It grows to a height of about 40m, with an age of typically up to 150 years, but 300 years possible.

Its habitat is light and sandy soils at low or moderate elevation, and the Scots Pine does not like sea winds or very high rainfall.
The propagation of the Scots Pine is from its seed.
Its natural native distribution is Scotland and Ireland.    It is also found across Europe from Spain to the Siberia.

The Scots Pine timber is as many pines, a strong general purpose timber.   Its uses with the use of preservatives for outdoor use are extensive, including fencing, joinery, building, flooring, box and packing cases.    It is also used for the manufacture of railway sleepers, pitwood, fibreboard, chipboard, and telegraph poles.

The needles of the Scots Pine yield a medicinal oil, whilst the wood yields pitch, tars, resin and turpentine.
